Each table in Hive has a location. By default, the table is located in a directory inside /apps/hive/warehouse. We can override the location by specifying LOCATION keyword while creating the table. Loading the data into a table copies the data to warehouse if data is local. Loading the data into a table moves the data to warehouse if data that we are loading is in HDFS for both managed as well as external tables.
Dropping a managed table deletes the data from the location while dropping an external table does not delete the underlying data. The metadata is stored in a relational database called as metastore.
